Hundreds of Nigerian football lovers and Twitter users, yesterday took to their various tweeter handles to celebrate one of her own legends in the game of football, Finidi George who turned 50 yesterday.
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) was the first to congratulate the legend on his golden jubilee via a tweet@thenff “50 hearty cheers to former@NGSuperEagles forward, Finidi George. Thank you George for memories and have a good one. Happy golden jubilee anniversary”.
Many Nigerian Tweeter users then took it off from there to express their joy, felicitation, good wishes and of course gratitude to the Super Eagles’ striker. The magnitude of their sincere joy towards the legend was very visible in their sweet comments about the Nigerian hero, just as it’s made evident in the screenshots below.
George was actually born on the 15th of April in 1971 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He started off his football career with Calabar Rovers at the age of eighteen, before joining Iwuanyawu Nationale and later Sharks.
Subsequently he played in European big teams like Ajax along side his compariot Nwankwo Kanu,and won the Championship League Cup with them, also played for the likes of Betis, Marlloca, Ipswich Town, and later on back again to Mallocar where he eventually retired, in the summer of 2003 from playing football.
However, George before his retirement joined the Nigerian Super Eagles in the year 1991-2001 and played in two different World Cup competitions for the national team.
In all, the right winger George Finidi played a total of 295 club games , scoring 68 goals. And a total of 62 games with 6 goals for the Nigerian Super Eagles.
