The National Communications Commission (NCC) in Nigeria has finally spoke up about the trending news in the social media which says that the commission had ordered telecom service providers to shutdown their services in Katsina state.
This announcement was brought to the public notice by Alhaji Abdu Labaran, the Director General (DG) media in a statement released to newsmen on Monday, in Katsina
The DG also confirmed that the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Prof.
Umar Danbatta, dismissed the news while speaking to the state government.
While speaking with the newsmen he said that the purported letter trending on social media which showed the prove of the fake news was an edited version of a letter sent to Zamfara State.
The NCC had in recently ordered a total shutdown of telecom sites in Zamfara state, in regards to the security challenges, this they did through through a letter which was sent to the state.
He said that it was that letter that some unknown people edited and shared to the social media.
Through Labaran’s speech it was also known that Danbatta had confirmed news as fake and advised that it should be disregarded.
